changed my mind again

"In physics, tension is the magnitude of the pulling force exerted by a string, cable, chain, or similar object on another object. It is the opposite of compression."

These (or better versions of these when I reshoot) will accompany the backburning video I have made for my extension exhibition.
Plus an image of the string as an object in the lighting studio. The string is actually strips of the family documents torn up and tied together.
Yay for finally getting somewhere.

Sad face

This time last year I was in New York.
I miss it. A lot.
I miss the smells and the sights and the people.

I miss my favourite twin, too.

February cannot come quick enough!!

Feel Good Drag

My computer is taking way too long to copy the photos I took for my major and extension.
So while I wait I'm going through photos on my hard drive. In doing so I found this photo of my friend Brad, who I'm hanging out with tomorrow night. He lives in the nicest house I've ever seen in Vauclouse, and he has a family I would be happy to have adopt me.

We met at Good Vibrations 2007 and we've remained really good friends despite the fact that he used one of the cheesiest pick up lines ever on me.
Brad: "Do I look hot?"
Me: "Sure"
Brad: "Hot enough to make out with?"
Me: "I guess so"
BAM!

Hahaha. In his defense, it worked. Ha. In my defense...who would say no?

We have a game night once a month, and tomorrow night it's Scrabble. He's gping to lose.

Just sayin'!

Why can't I be in New York now?

Printed Matter, Inc. presents The NY Art Book Fair, October 2-4 at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center

Next week, Printed Matter, Inc. and The NY Art Book Fair take over all three floors of P.S.1 to present 205 international presses, booksellers, antiquarians, museums, galleries, and artists from twenty-one countries, showing the very best in contemporary art publishing. More than sixty new exhibitors join this year's event. The Fair opens from 6-8pm on Thursday, October 1, and runs from October 2 through 4th at P.S.1. Entrance to the Fair is FREE.

So unfair.

Reason #458898 I'm a spoilt brat

So..my good friend Guy and I have matching backpacks (he got his first, I copied like the sheep I am) and I use mine on days I'm going to uni & the gym.
Anyway, both my parents hate the backpack, especially my Mum who doesn't think it is very lady-like. But yesterday my Dad made it clear just how much he hates it too, putting me in the same category as the girls I play softball with! (I'm tyring to keep this blog PG and friendly so I won't type the names he used). I didn't realise he hated it that much...it's just a backpack.

To cut a long, boring story short...he's decided to buy me a proper bag for the gym & uni days, and so tomorrow he's taking me to Louis Vuitton. Yay.

Guy, I know you'll send me a msg upon readng this to tell me how much you hate me. I'm prepared for it this time =]

In other news, I did a lot of photos over the past few days. I'll post some later.

I still need to do the photos for the Degree Show catalogue cover using the Alphaghetti. The scrabble one was fun, heh heh.

I'll be back soon.

Individual tutorials.

Just had my meeting with my academic advisor about my major work.

She loves it so that makes me very happy.
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Well, for this project at least.

I still need to worry about my extension exhibition project which is practically non existent.

Sigh.

So much to do and so little time.

I also need an external flash. Where is my nearest money tree?

!

Thoughts and such.

I've been in a bit of a rut, lately.
I'll have days where everything is fine and dandy, and then I'll just flip to the extreme opposite where I feel like I can't cope with anything.
It's not fun.

I think it's just stress from juggling uni, work and life. I know everyone else does this too, this great balancing act, but I guess up until now it's never really affected me this much.

I just want to feel completely happy again. I want to know that I have all these options and opportunities and that at the end of the day, I'm happy with myself and everything I've done.

I'll get there again. I know it.

In the meantime, memories of happy days will fuel me on.

It feels like a long time since I've smiled like this.

Grrrrant!

One of my absolutely best and closest friends in the world, Grant, helped me out with some photos at Kurnell National Park last week.
He's the best.
We get up to way too much mischief together but we wouldn't have it any other way!

I want one!

Stingray bike.

Now, please.

Sick.

I have a fever and I want to go home.

I do not want to be here to give a talk about "nomadic thought".

Bah.

Taryn Simon

Two weeks ago, I sat in on a lecture given by Taryn Simon about her latest body of work An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar.
She gave a great talk in which she went through this series and her last one, The Innocents. I had never heard of Taryn Simon before this talk but I'm so glad I went and am now a huge fan.
Her latest work chronicls her travels to places the public is usually not granted permission to access.
Look her up if you don't know her already. She's amazing.

Oh, plus..she did a shoot for i.d. magazine when Trent Reznor was promoting the Nine Inch Nails album The Fragile. So not only did Taryn put herself in the photo, but she managed to have a full on makeout session with Trent, and that's the photo they ran for the issue.
Needless to say, she is my hero.

I miss her.

In this sea of lonely
The taste of ink is getting old
It's four o' clock in the fucking morning
Each day gets more and more like the last day
Still I can see it coming
While I'm standing in the river drowning
This could be my chance to break out
This could be my chance to say goodbye

0100101110101101.ORG

aka Eva and Franco Mattes or aka my new favourite artists.

I stumbled upon these brilliant people while looking at photos of the recent Prague Bienale and I can't get enough of them now.
They're kind of sick and twisted, but they also make a living out of playing with cartoon characters so I'm a fan.

Check out more of their work here if you like:

Let's celebrate mediocrity!
